May the Fourth Be With You

This morning Brigid got herself up unusually early, anxious to get started with our day-long festivities for Star Wars Day. You know, May the Fourth be with You.

She spent the day as Rey from The Force Awakens.

It was somewhat fitting, her cosplay, in that this morning we also woke up to one of the worst sandstorms we have had in a long time. Rey is a scavenger on the desert planet of Jakku.

The sandstorm lasted all day, well into the night. I was glad we at least had a day of Star Wars fun planned when we were going to be stuck indoors for the whole day.

Brigid had decorated the night before, leaving Star Wars action figures all over the apartment, like on the bookshelves and on the drying laundry.

She pasted construction paper lightsabers on our doors and walls.

Myles had planned a scavenger hunt for her. This meant that there were even more action figures in odd places this morning, like a snow trooper in the refrigerator. He inserted this picture into one of our books of Saints, with the clue referring to him as St. Kenobi. When it comes to Star Wars these two kids are often freakishly on the same wavelength. She found it in an instant.

Later Brigid and I played Star Wars battleship. For every Thing you have, there is surely a Star Wars version of it.

Later we made our Star Wars cookies, which we washed down with Bantha milk.

Then it was time for a Star Wars trivia game. This particular version has questions that draw from the entire canon of Star Wars entertainment. When we are playing we actually screen the cards for movie-only trivia so Randy and I might have a chance. The question on this card about the Wookie's ammo belt Brigid answered easily. Sometimes, though, I like to pitch one of the obscure ones to Myles. The question on the bottom of the card, the one about the S-foils on ARC-170's, took him a few seconds to answer. He counted the pairs by tapping his thumb to his fingers and then chose, correctly, letter "C." I had never even heard of an ARC-170.

As Brigid likes to say, "We don't have a Star Wars problem."
