Changping scene

Every time I see something like this in Changping these days, a Ferrari and a Range Rover barely making it past each other on our narrow side streets, I am in wonder how only six years ago in this part of Beijing there were so few cars, let alone luxury vehicles.




I think about how back then it wouldn't be strange to see a donkey or mule pulling a cart through the streets. At one point, after seeing a horse-and-cart down in Lido in Beijing, then five-year-old Myles sagely nodded, "See? Beijing farmers are richer than Changping farmers. They have horses, when everyone around us just has donkeys or mules."

And then I wish I had taken more pictures of the mules. Seriously, had I know how quickly Changping was going to change, you know? I do have photos of streets empty of cars, but man, why don't I have any mules stored in my Pensieve.
