Today's new word
辅祭职 Fǔ jì zhí Instituted Acolyte
This vocabulary came to us a few Sundays ago. These are words I haven't heard often in English or Chinese, Instituted Acolytes. Earlier this month Bishop Li celebrated Mass at the seminary, and after his homily fourteen seminarians were installed as Instituted Acolytes, another step for them on their way to ordination.

After the Bishop finished his homily, his chair was moved in front of the altar from where he conducted the commissioning rite. One by one the fourteen seminarians were called by name. Each one rose from his pew, responded, "dào," and came forward. In turn each received a Roman collar and white surplice. The bishop also handed each the chalice and paten in an exchange of prayers and promises for these new ministerial duties.
At the end there were fourteen new Instituted Acolytes, 辅祭职, to serve Beijing.
In the six years that we have been attending Mass at the seminary, we have encountered a lot of young men in various stages of priestly formation. There's just something so.....humbling....about seeing them, at this stage of their lives, in this country, even exploring religious vocations, let alone making it to the priesthood.
