Snow Day!

In December's beijing kids I wrote about hoping for snow days in Beijing, where we don't often get a good snowfall. We do have our own version of snow days, occasionally, but often because we have just enough snow rather than too much.

However, there have been occasions when Beijing has allowed us to drop everything for our own kind of snow day. As a homeschooling family, it’s easy to for me to rearrange our day to accommodate two kids who are too distracted by too-rare snow to settle down. Besides, I’m not much in the mood for phonics and fractions when the white stuff is flying either.
And since I was writing about snow and Beijing and our family, there is, of course, a Great Wall twist to my column. Read the rest here. I also have photos of the last paragraph on this old post

These days, though, we are back in the US for a few more weeks. Both Myles and Brigid were really hoping for snow the minute we arrived back in December. There hasn't been much in this part of Pennsylvania until earlier this week. Monday after lunch I gave them a break to play for a while as just enough snow had fallen. I had looked at the forecast for later in the week, and the expected arctic blast seemed to preclude much outdoor play.

The rest of the week, then, we spent in mostly indoor pursuits, thankful that I am crazy about long underwear and wool socks.
