Making the most of the cold in Pittsburgh
Even with the ridiculous cold we had in Pittsburgh a few weeks back, the cold that kept us mostly indoors, we still had to make it to one outdoor event that was time-sensitive. The Winter Light Garden and Flower Show at the Phipps is a must-see for us now during our Christmas trip home. Like last year, it was bitterly cold and windy when we went. However, I cannot think of a better way to endure near-zero wind chills.
More after the jump
Once again, I was struck by how magical the lights were. The Phipps is an incredible place anyway, with bits of mystery and hints of otherworldly forces. A night-time visit heightens this sense, even in parts of the gardens that are there all the time.
But in winter, the big draw is the light display, indoors and out.
With enough layers, and the hot wine (and hot chocolate for the kids) they were serving, it was easy to endure the cold to be someplace like this.
