Contrasts

In Kraków the kids and I were walking around the old city, when we came upon this little shrine. It was a Maria Lactans.




Later in a souvenir shop, we were browsing some of the religious images and icons. There were many Madonna, including others some nursing the infant Jesus. It would have been nice to get one then, but we were worried about breaking them as we banged our luggage around for another few weeks.

Some time after that, when we were in San Sebastián, Randy and I were discussing over our pintxos and sangria our experience at the beach. We wondered aloud about Spain's attitudes toward breastfeeding (I later found one travel website that advised covering up because "Spain is a very conservative country"). It is something we'll continue to be amazed at from this trip, the sharp contrast between the Maria Lactans and the sunbathers.
