圣灰礼仪 shènghuī lǐyí Holy Ash Ritual
It has been a few years since we last attended Mass on Ash Wednesday. Scanning through my own blog archives, I see a few mentions of it, and our missing it due to some number of us being sick. This year, everyone was healthy, and the seminary had a late afternoon Mass that we could attend.

In my last post I talked again about how much the prayers chanted after Mass affected me. A weekday afternoon Mass at the seminary does not have these lay-led chants after dismissal. What it does have, though, are the seminarians and priests chanting the Liturgy of the Hours. At the beginning of Mass and again at the close, they chanted in choir several Psalms. If only we lived closer to the seminary so we could experience this more often than just occasionally.
Of course, we received ashes.
It was dark by the time we left Mass. The kids were excited to see the crescent moon over the church, but then we were even more surprised by what we saw projected on the bell tower.
天主堂 (tiānzhǔtáng). Catholic Church. This is one way, I guess, to be 世界的光 (shìjiè de guāng). Or, at the very least, the neighborhood.
