Sport, our other second language
I've blogged a lot about language learning, and occasionally about how the vocabulary of playing sports and sports fandom has become a big part of that process. There are times we meet Chinese sports fans that want to talk to us about our favorite teams. Sometimes I feel a little like a missionary, spreading the gospel of the greatness of my favorite Pittsburgh teams (either current or legacy, depending on what fits at the time).
There are times, too, when we are evangelized on local sports. Last month one of Myles' Changping friends gave him this scarf.

FC Guo'An, Beijing's professional soccer team. Myles was ecstatic; most of his football gear is Messi-related. His interest has slowly been growing in FC Guo'An; maybe by next season both kids will want to catch a match.
