Five and Ten
The last two weeks of October into early November have become busy, festive times for us. In addition to our now annual tradition of Oktoberfest and Halloween, we have two birthdays!
First we marked Myles' tenth birthday with, at his request, our usual cake: chocolate buttermilk with peanut butter icing, and his age outlined in M&M's.
Among his modest haul was a much-requested Moleskine notebook. He was so excited to see the black Moleskine gift box.
Both kids are obsessed with Moleskine notebooks, but who can blame them? The Hobbit-themed series just hit the shelves in Beijing this fall, so it was perfect for Myles.
Conscious of how special this sketchbook is, he is reserving it for drawings in which he is willing to invest a lot of time.
Brigid's fifth birthday, a little more than two weeks later, was nearly the same. A chocolate buttermilk cake with peanut butter icing, but this time in the shape of a heart.
She also received a Moleskine notebook, but from the Lego series. Again, the Moleskine giftbox was cause for anticipation.
I love how these have an actual Lego on the cover. I may get one for myself, maybe the planner, and keep some Legos in my purse for bored child emergencies.
We were also fortunate to be able to order some special books for both kids at the Beijing Bookworm. Currently, the Herge comics other than Tintin are not available in the US. I was able to order through the Bookworm a Quick & Flupke for Myles and a Jo, Zette, and Jocko for Brigid. They were both surprised, as they had never seen these on the shelves anywhere other than the Herge Museum.
