Heat Watch 2013: What I will not miss not having city heat

In our old apartment, we lived within a block of our neighboorhood's central heat generation plant. It had the unwelcome side-affect of coal dust penetrating our apartment at every crack and crevice. I was constantly battling black residue when I would clean during heating season.



In the new apartment, we inspected every possible corner and joint for potential intruding coal dust. We didn't notice any. It could be because this apartment is just a little better built, or that, living several blocks from the nearest furnace we aren't in the direct line of fire of the exhaust.
