Viva Colonia
Since Oktoberfest in Beijing last fall, Myles and Brigid have attached a special significance to the song "Viva Colonia." Normally sung during Carnival (also called in the Köln dialect of Kölsch as Fastelovend), it is known to Oktoberfest goers in München retitled "Viva Bavaria!" At the expat German community's celebration in Beijing, though, the band sang the original lyrics. Now my kids love singing this song.
As we pulled into Köln station for a few hours before continuing on to Euskirchen, we elected to take a little time at the Dom and the Starbucks. Myles and Brigid hummed "Viva Colonia" under their breath, excited that even for an hour or so we would be in the city of the song again.
It was here I decided to unleash all of our tacky at once.

Da simmer dabei! Dat is prima! VIVA COLONIA!
Wir lieben das Leben, die Liebe und die Lust
Wir glauben an den lieben Gott und hab'n noch immer Durst.
Loosely translated, it means, "WHY NOT?"
