Shieldwall for all!
In March, we were privileged to attend Justin Hill's book talk at the Beijing Bookworm International Literary Festival. He was there promoting his recent novel, Shieldwall, an historical fiction of events leading up to 1066. This was a subject particularly appealing to our family as pure factual account in the first place. What Hill has written, filling in the spaces in the known records with intriguing (though not always likable) characters and page-turning prose, is something that has left us anxious for the second book in the series.
Randy and I both have been very enthusiastic in recommending Shieldwall. Since it was not yet available in the US, I had to buy a copy at the Bookworm to give as a Mother's/Father's Day present for my parents to share. Had I known that by summer's end the book would be distributed in the United States, I would have waited a few more weeks and gave my parents an IOU in June. I don't see a Kindle edition yet, but surely one must be forthcoming.
