Table with a view

Sunday afternoon we were at Great Wall Fresh again, hoping to escape the thick, lingering greyness we've been experiencing too much of these last few weeks. It wasn't perfectly clear, but out there in Hebei we had visibly better air quality than even Changping.

More, mostly pictures, after the jump

As each dish appeared, more delicious than the last, Mrs. Chen reminded us that we should come her more often. You live so close! Only in Changping! And as we devoured each plate we had to agree with her.

This picture does not show the omelet ("made with this morning's eggs!"), the fresh lettuce salad ("kids! watch me pick your lunch right here") and an eggplant dish that will forever be referred to by us as eggplant candy.

The kids spent time admiring the garden in the courtyard and running around the orchard behind the house. Brigid kept looking with at the perfect rows of vegetables and sprouts edged with beautiful flowers, saying "I wish we had a yard. I wish we had a garden like this."

Bellies full, it was time for a short Great Wall climb. Great Wall Fresh has access to some pretty incredible, but challenging, sections of the Wall, but we have yet to attempt them. For the time being, we're happy with this less-difficult part.
