New rule
When we moved into this apartment more than two years ago, in a hurry and under duress I must add, we were surprised that a building this old by contemporary China standards still had the commercial space on the first two floors almost completely unoccupied. What had been intended to be storefronts, real estate offices, and other retail businesses remained unfinished.
Recently that has begun to change. Slowly businesses have moved in, their pending arrival announced by giant piles of sand in front of their doors. The spaces have all been completely unfinished, so the new tenants have to do everything, including laying down a new floor. An insurance company and a pawn shop appeared by last summer. Right before I left in November, work had started on another empty storefront. It wasn't finished until sometime before we returned last week.
It's a very flashy facade, standing out from all the commercial tenants. A massage parlor which can be a good thing or it can be.......
A few days into the New Year, four more pictures were added to the exterior that made it a little more obvious what kind of massage place this would be. On the left hand side these two pictures, a woman in a towel and a woman in a white bikini. On the right hand side, a pair of legs and a naked woman, possibly taking a shower.
Yup, that kind of massage parlor. I thought when we left Chicken Street, Shekou for the relative luxury and family-friendliness of Wei Lan Hai An in another part of Shenzhen we were done with all of that. It also makes me wonder, too, why they have to be so obvious. I thought there was code for this, like the neon lights or the chandelier hanging in the entryway.
This has made me think that for our next lease we need to add a clause that reads something to the effect "Tenant reserves the right to end the lease without penalty immediately upon the arrival of a commercial tenant to the same building that needs to advertise its services with pictures of naked women in full view of the street or the tenant."
