This is Mess Fest
Another event that is becoming one of our favorite Pittsburgh traditions is Mess Fest. On January 1, the Carnegie Science Center pulls out all of its sloppiest, stickiest, and gooiest activities all at the same time.
Special skeleton aprons are provided.

And we made Steelers noisemakers
And sidewalk chalk
And non-Newtonian fluids
And the highlight for Myles (and Brigid now) is the egg drop. He has been thinking occasionally about his strategies for the egg drop since last year but in the days leading up to January 1 he was often preoccupied. How would he stabilize the egg? What sort of shock absorption?
Not everyone was as successful as Myles and Brigid.
While this is certainly a way to get kids interested in STEM subjects, the challenge is to keep them interested, long after they outgrow the splish-splash-ewww.
