Teen Romance

We were shopping in Barnes and Noble a few days before Christmas. I had been browsing the graphic novels and turned around and saw that there was a section called "Teen Romance." This wasn't a surprise to me, though  it included Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and a couple of Jane Austen novels, all with tarted-up covers. Hooray for literacy, I guess. On the other side, though, Randy and his daughter Katie showed me that there was more to Teen Romance than just Romance.



I guess this is related somewhat to my being surprised by the whole Twilight thing a few years ago. I just could not believe that there was a market this big for this many titles in this category, one I was unaware existed. And why wasn't Wuthering Heights on this side of the shelves?

These are the times I feel like a foreigner in my own country.
