Snow-starved kids
Last year in the month of December alone, my little hometown recorded more than 60 inches of snow. While this was record-breaking, there had already been snowfall in October and November before we arrived. We have not seen much snow at all since we returned for these holidays, though.
We started out this trip home getting ready for the inevitable snow. Among our first stops is always Little's shoe store in Squirrel Hill for new sneakers and sandals in the summer and very warm snow boots in the winter. New snowpants, hats, and gloves were also purchased by early December. But the snow we had been counting on stayed away.
There were a few days of a little snow, and Myles and Brigid, desperate for the white stuff, tried to play in it. While I admired their determination to have the winter they planned, I could not help but think they looked like kids from Georgia that had never seen snow before.
Today we planned to have a snowy play day with two of my sisters and their kids. The weather forecast called for a "wintry mix" throughout the region, with snow particularly in Kane. We stayed at my in-laws' last night. Setting out for Kane, about an hour away, we drove through the first fat flakes of the weather system. The snow quickly turned to rain and sleet and back to rain again, though, and our snowy day never happened.
