Baby Class

Recently, Brigid has a few times a week lined up her various baby dolls, a couple of bears, and a few other familiar faces like Fancy Nancy and Prinzessin Lillifee. She announces to me it is time for Baby Class.

Since I am Teacher Mommy, I get to lead the class in singing the ABC's, counting, and some other song. Then I get to read a book to them. Teacher Brigid demonstrates "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" and "Arms Across and Arms Apart." She also puts them down for their group nap.

I don't know how she came up with this Baby Class idea. If we were still living in the US, we would probably attend regularly some library story time, just as Myles did before we moved to China . And I have taken her to a few Carnegie Library events over the years when we have been in Pittsburgh. I can't remember if we went to one this summer or not. Other than those very rare and isolated times, she has never been to a Kindermusik, or a Music Together, or anything like that at all.

When I ask her what each baby is named, she tells me, "Jessa."

What about this one? "She's also Jessa."

And this baby? "Jessa!"

They are all named Jessa, except for her Cabbage Patch (who came with the name Delaney) and the baby doll that used to be Myles', and before that, Crispian's. Myles so long ago named that baby "Offense." This name has, of course, stuck.
