Prague: Part 3 Of course, the clocks
The Astronomical Clock was a special hit with Myles. Part of it, I am sure, was that I built it up, waiting until just before the bells chimed to build the urgency of needing to get to the clock before it was too late! And it is just a cool show, the parade of Apostles and the skeleton banging his chime.
Since 2001 the city has added trumpeters as well, on the towers on each end of the Charles Bridge that trumpet in turn following the hour's chime. They are dressed like they belong in the cast of Once Upon a Mattress, but Myles thought that was great, too
The other clock was the Hebrew-number clock in the Jewish Quarter. Myles was fascinated that this clock turns in reverse from our clocks. It would have been more obvious had we chosen another time to see it. Five minutes after one in the afternoon does not show this that dramatically.
