Critters
In the harried days of our last two weeks in the US, we spent a little time at my Aunt Anne Marie's in Front Royal (yes, that Front Royal). My grandma lives with Anne Marie and her family, so we had a very full visit.
One of the highlights for Brigid, other than her fascination with my Grandma, was getting to hold some of the critters. My cousin Elizabeth has guinea pigs and is summer-sitting a pair of geckos from her school. My kids and Elizabeth's little brother Michael enjoyed taking turns holding these little pets.
Brigid's response to the geckos surprised me. Sure, they're cute behind the glass, but in my opinion, they are still creepy little reptiles. Brigid, however, did not share my opinion and was eager for her turn.
What surprised me even more was that when it was her turn, she sat still and was very gentle with the gecko.
Other highlights of a visit to Front Royal with your family were drive-by's of Christendom College and Human Life International
And the caves! This was particularly a hit with Myles because of his visits to Guilin/Yangshuo and his interest in geology.
I really like the still, reflecting pools that, with the help of the colored lights, make the cavescape appear like something out of a Sci Fi movie.
There was so much to love about Front Royal--the playgrounds at Lion's Park, the used book store where I spent well over $100, the Catholic Bookstore with its sizable homeschooling section, the great view from my aunt's deck. Most of all, it was a brilliant time with Anne Marie, Mike, Elizabeth, Michael, and Grandma.
