Easter baskets

When my friend RheaAnn told me she and her husband Bill planned on coming to China in April, and would have ample room in their luggage to bring over anything we needed, my thoughts immediately turned to Easter. I ordered some Easter toys from Hearthsong, and asked RheaAnn to pick up a little bit of candy when she was at the store. I also wanted to take the opportunity to buy something special, and I had in mind wooden saint dolls like many of us have admired at Elizabeth Foss' blog. I had originally hoped to find a St. Brigid and a St. Ambrose to tuck in the kids' Easter baskets. I browsed Etsy, looking at Catholic Folk Toys and St. Anne's Pixies, but not finding exactly what I wanted among all their beautiful selections. I'm sure they could make what I wanted to order, but I was short on time. Then I found St. Luke's Brush with a selection of icon-style paintings on wooden eggs. How perfect, I thought. Myles loves icons, and the egg-shapes would be very fitting for Easter.



For Brigid, I chose a Madonna and Child. And for Myles, the choice was easy once I saw the title of this egg, "The Word was Made Flesh."

I keep going back to these Etsy shops and admiring the beautiful work. There will be wooden saint dolls in our future.
