Happy St. Patrick's Day

For St. Patrick's Day I was a bit rushed because we had a busy day today, so the only true Irish food we had with our (GREEN!) split pea soup dinner was soda bread. Even then the recipe I used was not totally authentic but one I adore from a Mollie Katzen cookbook, Still Life with Menu. It is similar to other recipes that I've seen, except it allows for a 1/2 substitution for the wheat flour with oat flour and uses yogurt instead of the more conventional buttermilk (a substitution I often make on my own anyway).  Oat flour is simple enough to make, if you've never done it, by using a food processor with a steel blade to reduce rolled oats to a fine powder (and some, like 5%-10%, coarse is fine and gives the bread character). When I told Myles tonight that we would need to make oat flour tonight, he excitedly asked if we were going to be using a millstone.

Additionally for this feast day for the Patron Saint of Ireland I'd like to link to our trip to Ireland.

Er, I mean, our trip to the Ireland Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

More on our experience of Ireland at the Expo can be found in this post, below Ukraine and Turkey.

For the Ambroses, an extra special Happy St. Patrick's Day to you.

In Heaven is all my trust.

As I posted at F&FL I am IBM, Irish by Marriage. So is Jeff except he's Italian by Marriage :). And with a son named Joseph Patrick, this is a busy week for us! Of course, if you read my small successes, you know we aren't having Irish food either, except for lime Jell-O, and I don't really think that counts ;0) BTW, love Miles' suggestion of the mill stone LOL, he cracks me up!
