#gosteelers
I haven't had much time this fall or winter to blog about the Steelers, though on twitter I've had a lot to say.
This morning just before five, Myles and Brigid and I were all out of bed. Jet lag is still a problem, with the kids dropping off by late afternoon and only sleeping until just after midnight. Fortunately, though, I actually wanted to be awake at some ridiculous hour so we could listen to the Steelers play the Ravens.
Many weeks this regular season I've tried to listen to the Steelers games online, even if only half a game. The Sunday and Monday night games have been the easiest; NFL and breakfast are a great combination. With a 4:30 kick-off this Saturday, I knew early Sunday morning Beijing-time would find me awake and glued to my computer.
Games against the Ravens are really hard for me to take, especially those with win-or-go-home stakes. Like many Steelerfans, I cannot express in any polite language my feelings for the Ravens (and I know the feeling is mutual, and that's okay with me). A few weeks ago I tweeted something to the effect that I would still be a Steelersfan if the team were to go a pathetic 2-14, provided those two wins were against the Ravens. Any match-up against the Ravens is a must-win for the Steelers, but this weekend exceptionally so.
I don't have a lot to say about the game, unfortunately, because in the first half my VPN quit, so I lost my audio stream of the game. I watched the stats change on NFL.com as well as my twitter feed until I had to leave for Mass at the halftime. I wasn't terribly encouraged by the score at that point (21-7), though I knew that if ever there were a team that could overcome that deficit in the second half, it would be this season's Steelers. After Mass I checked my text messages, happy to see the final score.
It wasn't hard to tear myself away to go to church at half-time, regardless of the score. But I hope that God remembers that I did leave a Ravens game (AND a playoff!) at the half to worship Him, you know, in case He keeps score. I did not offer my prayers for a Steelers victory, but rather for the Steelerfans around the world (regardless of the outcome) and, as always, Ray Lewis.
It was fun, though, to come home and scroll through Twitter to see what I missed. At least that was how I had to look at it. One of my favorites was from my sister, quoting my father, "When the Ravens QB's play stinks, is it Flacc-ulent?" Another, from Troy Polamalu's brother-in-law (Alex Holmes) is a great addition to my Steelers-centric lexicon, "Housmandroppah!!!!!!" I think this verb could replace "Vanderjagt" for me (for use of Vanderjagt, see here).
Next week is hurrah! another game week. Hopefully in the next few days I will be able to download the game. I think it is possible on NFL.com, but that website seems to be better at promoting their paid content than showing you how actually to order said content. I have no problem paying for the download. I would just like it to be obvious how to place the order.
GO STEELERS!!!!!!
