Reliving the magic
Brigid has developed a new night-time ritual. While I wish we would just change into pajamas, read a few books, maybe watch an episode of something short, then tuck her lovingly into bed, Brigid has her own ideas. (This will probably be a recurring theme of the next few years, Brigid has her own ideas).
She goes to her father and asks to look at pictures on his computer. Sometimes she balls her hands into fists and pounds the air. This means she wants to see photos of Evangeline. Other times, she specifically asks to see Bella or Aletta or Mia. She could watch these pictures for hours if we would let her, pictures from the summer of her playing with one of her cousins or nieces.
Yes, our summer vacation was wonderful. The kids were encouraged to be outside playing more than inside most of their waking hours. They were never want for company or playmates. What is incredible, though, is that a few months later Brigid is the one among us who most obsessively wants to revisit these pictures. Brigid, not quite two years old, seems to be the best equipped among us to live here having no lengthy experience of anywhere else.
But here she is, night after night, refreshing her memories of what she already recognizes as rare and special times. It surprised me that this is her new favorite bedtime routine.
