The Glamour of Evil

When we were in Hong Kong, Randy and I bought our birthday present for Myles.  We wanted to get him some more pieces to match his existing set of knights (as we also had for his 5th birthday), and there are few places, if any, in the US that carry any ELC products.  Myles probably suspected that we were buying something like that since he knew we were going to Bumps to Babes, but he was genuinely surprised that we found him some additional bad-guy monsters.

This was, of course, grounds for war.

The battle quickly took over his room. The bad guys lined up in approach to the good guy's Helm's Deep stronghold.

I looked at the raiders, a fearsome assortment of dark knights, giants, mythical creatures, dragons, and orcs.

The good guys were, obviously, brave and virtuous, and yet, less colorful and less interesting than the bad guys. Instead of the intense characters that were their foes, the good knights (and eventual victors) were a sea of sameness. I could barely distinguish one from another.

Immediately and surprisingly what came to my mind were some of the language of our renewal of baptismal promises. Along with rejecting Satan and all his empty promises, we are called in baptism to reject the glamour of evil. The glamour of evil was right there on the bedroom floor. And no wonder it would be difficult to reject. It may not always be beautiful, but, man, does evil ever catch your attention.  It doesn't look boring at all, does it?

Excellent "toy story." (Sorry, but I couldn't resist). What a great and right on post.
