Barely out of the airport
Thursday night we returned from what is becoming our annual Chinese National Day trip to Shenzhen and Hong Kong. While other residents of China might choose more exotic destinations for this Golden Week holiday, we are happy to return to our old stomping grounds and enjoy the company of our friends still there.
Less than an hour after landing in Shenzhen, I was in the taxi cab, amused that in that short amount of time I already had a short list of topics that I just could not wait to get up on the blog. Within the next day that grew to five or six, almost a week's worth of posting. What is it about Shenzhen that makes me want to be so dang productive?
We had just collected our checked bags when Brigid insisted on helping and pulling luggage herself. As a stand-alone post this one would have been titled "Freakishly Strong." A quote from Friends, we throw it around in our family to describe the incredible physical strength of the petite Callihan girls.

Shortly after I took this picture, we found ourselves narrowly escaping serious injury. Some Chinese pop star had also just landed in Shenzhen. Hundreds of his screaming fans were there to welcome him (without any visible airport security to hold them back, I must add). The hysterical masses became a huge crush of teen aged girls. I scooped up Brigid, who was uncooperatively and twistingly expressing her desire to walk herself. Barely I managed to get through without stepping on any body. Toes, probably, but nothing more than a foot. None of my friends could shed any light on who the popstar was. They're not in the right demographic.

And then we were in the taxi, and Sunday at church, then later at the mall.......so many little things that I kept turning over in my head, so many pictures and words I want to hash out. Bear with me.
