Shanghai Expo: Pudong Side, The USA Pavilion
The lines were much too long for us to go to the USA pavilion, though not as long as the announced three-to-six hour wait to get into the ROK pavilion (yeah--what is up with that?)! We were torn, patriotically, but we really wanted to see some of the more showy displays, so we skipped the US, sort of.
At the very end of the day, we walked into the Pavilion store, which is really the exit, as if we were going to buy something. We were actually looking at the hot pink cowboy hats, but they didn't look as good on me as on the shelf.
Over the guards' heads I snapped a few pictures of the corporate displays. It just looked like standard trade-show type things to me, so I didn't regret missing it. I mean, if I want to listen to Americans butcher the Chinese language, as is shown in the welcoming film at the pavilion, I don't even need to leave the comfort of my own home.
On Public Radio's Marketplace show they featured the US Pavilion yesterday, dealing mostly with the subject of corporate sponsorship. It's a good listen/read, though on the website there is the added bonus of a slide show. One thing they picked up on in the report was that even the No Smoking signs were sponsored and bearing a corporate logo (Pfizer). I don't think the local audience would see it as such a big deal, though. In countless parks I've been in, Stay of the Grass signs were sponsored by Taiping Life.

We stayed an an Ibis. Very Vanilla accomodations, but relatively clean and inexpensive.
Check out Adam's post to help you prioritize your visit. I have to say, though, coffee at Brasil is better than Colombia. But you can try both and see which you prefer.

3) Go back to Peru and buy a bunch of Peruvian sweaters. Those for kids were terribly cute and the prices were fantastic!
Ibis is where we stayed before we got our apartment situated. It was nice (and cheap) enough, glad there is one there!
