Points of view
There is a particular part of the Great Wall I feel like we've been chasing for months. We've seen it in the distance from many angles, and from many directions, but until this weekend it seemed as we would never get close to it.
It's a strange-looking part. Rather than sticking with the plan following tightly along the ridge line, it looks as though the builders had a change-of-mind. It ascends the mountain, but suddenly descends again. In many of our pictures, it is easy to identify, even when so many other sections seem to be indistinguishable from another.

This weekend we were the nearest to it we have yet come. We still have not gotten close enough to appreciate what still appears to us to be a sudden change of direction. Other features, though, have amazed us. For instance, it has what appears to be a camel back, like a roller coaster. 
So much of the Great Wall that we've seen around Beijing makes obvious strategic sense, the product of a great plan. This part, however, from where we've been able to see it, seems more random, more like a product of the first emperor's frantic magic horse.
