Hosting guests

We've been a little swamped this week getting ready to host Randy's daughter for a month starting this Sunday. Since we still don't have storage closet, our extra bedroom has been used as a massively disorganized storage mess-space.  This is the room where Katie will be staying so we have had to organize and clean it this week. It will, unfortunately, still be the home of boxes and unused baby things like walkers, but at least those things will be stacked to one side of the room rather than all over the place.

One thing that was in the room that I had forgotten about until yesterday was this pedestal fishbowl.  Our landlord had not moved it out like we had expected her to, so when we did the final walk-through and inventory, I actually asked for her not to leave it here. I had given in on so many other redundant furnishings, like the extra refrigerator and washing machine, as well as the additional beds and sofas that our realtor had told us could be removed.  But this particular piece I was afraid the kids would break so I really wanted it out of the apartment. Our landlord and her husband clearly had not anticipated this.  She said that we could keep fish in it, since that was its intended use. I countered that we travelled too much to keep fish. Her husband then suggested that when we have guests stay it could be useful if they wanted to wash up.  I could have argued that with two bathrooms in the apartment our guests would have ample opportunity to wash up in a sink, but I knew that would be pointless, and that they had already decided that the fishbowl was staying. 

Our guests will be welcome to use it.
