Snow again this week

The other day Telegraph blogger Peter Foster had a post about the drought conditions as he sees them driving in and around Beijing. While the maps on his GPS show bodies of water, he usually sees just dried up areas. Beijing has a fairly dry climate anyway, and the drought is serious, serious enough that the government has been seeding clouds produce rain and snow, though once it was to produce a telegenic day for the big October 1 parade. We had another snowfall earlier this week. While, I haven't read whether this snow shower was natural or chemically assisted, it can certainly help.
In the parks near us, city workers have been clearing the snow off the play grounds and exercise areas and piling them around the trees and shrubs. Of course, this makes an excellent mountain, defense position for snow ball fights, and a great place to hunt orcs.
In other areas, snow is piled into the wells around each tree in hopes it will do some good when it gets a little warmer. And yes, I know this is nothing compared to the beating those of you especially in the Philly area have been getting this year. We'll take what we can get, though.
