Slam it!

We were on a playdate this morning with the other foreign family. They had just returned from a trip to Penang and brought me back a present.

"Would you like to do a Tim Tam Slam?" she asked.

From the sound of it, you'd never guess there's no alcohol involved.

These Australian cookies, biscuits they call them, are apparently also popular all over Southern Asia, which is why my friends brought a package back from Malaysia. The "Tim Tam Slam" is an Australian, uh, thing (treat? trick? delicacy?).

She explained to me where to bite the cookie (opposite corners for the uninitiated and un-Australian) and that I was to suck my coffee through the exposed cookie as hard as I couild and until I could taste the coffee. The cookie dissolved into mushiness, and the chocolate did get gooey. I guess that is the point.

It was a yummy adventure in international cuisine. I guess it was a good thing I hadn't given chocolate up for Lent.
