Dawn on the Feast of St. Therese
Thursday morning, while much of Beijing was waking to a canopy of grey, Changping witnessed the first glimmers of blue sky.
Hours later, the clearing spread throughout Beijing, just in time for the 60th Anniversary National Day parade and pageant. Thanks to Adam, Malcolm, and a host of others, comes this link to watch a gorgeous four-minute summary of the parade from the Telegraph's Dan Chung.
In years past, in Shenzhen, some of my friends have made sure that I knew that that our parish held a Mass on October 1. I always came up with an excuse for not going because I didn't want them to know that I was uneasy going to Mass on National Day. Last year, though, one of my friends said as she was reminding me about Mass, "It's the feast of St. Therese." Of course, last year I was about a month from Brigid's birth and already not terribly comfortable. I was unable to roll (and I do mean roll) out to Mass that morning.
This year I listened closely at the close of Mass to hear if they were going to make any announcements regarding October 1. There were no announcements. I don't know if they had Mass or not, either for National Day or St. Therese.
