Not even Almost Famous
The other day at Jusco, I was shopping for some cooler weather clothes for the kids. We have entered that time of year, early fall, when one day can be gorgeous and 80 degrees and the next can be cool, windy and in the 60s. Among the stalls of clothing was a brand I recognized not because I buy it but because Myles has been in two of their catalogs. I noticed immediately that they even had on display the last catalog he had done for that clothing company, odd to me because it was the Summer 2008 edition. I flipped through one and showed the salesgirl that one of the little boys was Myles.
The girl working this particular booth started calling over other associates from the children's department. Some were disappointed to learn that the catalog had been shot in China. One girl was familiar with Dameisha, the beach in eastern Shenzhen where the photos were taken. She couldn't believe the kids were playing on Dameisha. Dameisha is very crowded and dirty, she insisted. I explained to her that the kids were there in March when the beach was empty, and the photographers use Photoshop to clean up the beach.
The salesgirl for this clothing stall called her manager and surprised us with giving us the catalog. It is a copy we did not have so it will be nice to add to the collection. Myles appeared in over 20 different clothing catalogs and ad campaigns when we were in Shenzhen, and we have less than 10 of them. And even after 20 jobs, this was only the second time we've seen Myles' pictures actually in the store or mall though these days in Shenzhen folks are still seeing him around.
