What's a Steelerfan Mommy to do?

If you know us or have read this blog for any amount of time, you know we are really big Steelers fans. You would also not fail to notice that Myles is frequently in a Ben Roethlisberger jersey or T-shirt. He has somewhere between five and seven of them. I really lose count.

Now we have a problem. In case you hadn't read the news, Ben is suddenly in the news and not having anything to do with football. Not being in the US, Myles can wear his Big Ben jerseys around our area probably without comment. He has no idea about the Ben-Harrah's story. Perhaps if we were to go into the areas of Beijing where we would encounter more Americans, there might be an occasion for someone to mention something. So maybe if he needs to show his Pittsburgh pride (really, you have no idea how much he loooooves to tell other Americans we are from Pittsburgh) he can wear just a plain Steelers shirt or his new favorite Malkin shirt.

But the bigger issue, of course, will be if the accusations prove to be true. As a Steelers fan, and especiallyas a Big Ben fan, of course, it is really hard to believe that Mr. "Play for Jesus" is the same man named in the lawsuit. However if it does turn out to be true, what are parents going to do with all those Ben t-shirts and jerseys? How is anyone else handling this?

I wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I remember when the priest sex-abuse scandal reached a fevered pitch years back and I found out a priest I had loved dearly who had past away was in fact moved around because he was abusing children. While obviously not quite the same, I remember telling my mom that I would always remember the person I loved but with quite a bit of sadness now.

I am with you on the let's just see approach. Unfortunately some times high profile people become the targets of money hungry people who stretch and twist the truth in search of money. I myself, as a die hard Steeler fan and Mom of younger Steeler fans, hate to condemn as Big Ben is as everyone here in the good old USA, is innocent until proven guilty . Just my two cents.

I should note that right now Myles is blissfully unaware of what is going on back in Pittsburgh. I think if this news broke while we were still in the US, it would have been difficult to shield him from it. For the time being, he has no idea, which is a good thing.

I HATE it when stuff like that happens! We used to watch a lot of Jon & Kate plus 8 around here....but not anymore! It's hard to explain to the kids.
Let's just pray the allegations are untrue. That's how I'll be praying anyway!

Being in Pittsburgh, it's been difficult to shield Crispian from it. Front page of the paper, SportsCenter, local news. John kept the story at "accused of assaulting a woman." I don't mind getting into THAT discussion with him, but we are definitely not ready for what the real allegations are.

Anyway, we're hanging on to the hope that he's still an upstanding young manf and that this is just someone's sick idea of earning a few bucks. We'll see....
