Sheng Baolu de Qing Ri Conversion of St. Paul

Today is the feast day of the Conversion of St. Paul, so our readings at Mass this morning at St. Paul were for the feast rather than Ordinary time.

Speaking of the Conversion of St. Paul, our parish's renovation project is showing real progress. It hardly looks like the same church.

Here is the outside wall which hasn't been repainted yet


And here are some of what has been finished so far.



It is really going to be something when it is done. In addition to the replastering and painting of the exterior, the roof has been replaced, new windows have been fitted, and all the interior rooms are being gutted.

I think it's really going to look nice! It looks much more "western" than "asian".

Nancy--here's a little history of the church property . What these buildings are are the surviving structures from the Italian mission in Nantou. The original church is gone, but the old orphanage has been used by the parish since the property was returned from the government. So, yes, they are Western, but you could say they are typical for Asia since a lot of the older buildings were built by foreign missionaries.
