Storytime
Our hotel is attached to a gigantic megamall complex in Kowloon. That has been great for daily runs to the grocery store, Starbucks, the bookstore, Kate Spade. Okay, that last one is just my fantasy.
Our first night here Myles insisted on going to the bookstore immediately to buy Brigid her first book so he could read it to her. I wasn't there, but apparently he spent a long time considering his choices.
He's been reading it to her. This has been another part of the baby coming about which he has been most excited. We've really tried to build up this event for him and how he gets to participate in it. This was the biggest difference for us between his being a three-year-old waiting for a baby and a five-year-old. At three, the baby was much more abstract, something to talk about with words like Big Brother thrown around for good measure. At five, his understanding and need to have a role are totally different. He already has in his mind the job description for Big Brother. This included reading to her, building her bed (which we haven't done yet, using a borrowed travel bed at the moment), helping me out when I'm too tired, singing to her quite music, saying "Bu yao ku" (don't cry) in a soothing voice....the list goes on and on and is filled with such sweetness.
