Some things in the news
I am so grateful for Google alerts, because I would otherwise miss reading some really interesting stuff.
The Diocese of Shanghai was successful (yet again) in regaining some Church property from the government, this time a Byzantine-style church which sounds like it is near the Shanghai Zoo. I read this via UCAN, which today at 9:00 pm here in Nanshan District of Shenzhen is not blocked. I am interested in learning more about this church, especially if it at one time was Byzantine Rite as well.
And this piece from Christianity Today is interesting because it discusses some of the problems I have faced several times (albeit on a relatively small scale) here in China---what does it mean when the Pope legitimizes "Patriotic Church" bishops? What does that mean to those who continue to be part of the "Underground Church?" Kim-Kwong Chan really captures the complexity of the current issues facing Catholics in China.
One more thing, not via my Google Alerts, but rather straight from Adam, a very interesting piece of news about a journalist who erroneously reported to the world that Bibles were going to be banned from the Olympics and was then asked by the Chinese government to....run a leg of the Olympic torch relay. Really.
