Signs

This morning Myles drew two signs he wanted to hang in the apartment so people understand the rules when they come to our house.

The first one is pretty clear.

"No smoking!"

Recently we spent a week-and-a-half without hot water. We experienced a brief power-outage and something happened to the electronics in the power surge that followed the electricity coming back. Even though we have a gas water heater, the controls are still electric. We went several rounds with many different repairmen, all of whom assumed that foreigners would pay anything to get their hot water back. Ha! We really showed them by.....not taking hot showers for over a week.

Anyway, one set of repairmen really took the cake for us. One of them lit up a cigarette in the apartment and began smoking in the house. Not only did he not ask if it was okay, but he didn't even ask for an ashtray! My Chinese teacher told him to stop. I was afraid to myself because I thought it would be rude to tell a repairman not to smoke in my house.

The second sign, well......I wasn't so sure of its origin. It wasn't clear to me if this was drawn in reaction to something Myles saw that I didn't, or if he was anticipating a need to spell out this rule. I mean, I really hope he didn't observe something the workmen did that prompted this.

"No peeing on the floor."
