I think it is called the Delmarva Penninsula. DELaware, MAryland,Va for Virginia. New Jersey is not on the Penninsula but across Delaware bay. I am not exactly sure where Virginia comes into it though. I thought Virginia was across the Chesapeake bay.
We once drove down the New Jersey part of this piece, took a ferry across from Cape May to the top of the Delmarva Penninsula, drove down the Penninsula, took another ferry to Virgina, drove down the outer banks islands , and wound up in, I think, South Carolina, where my son was graduating from boot camp. (If you want to see pictures of the boot camp, see the Danny DeVito movie Renaissance Man; the camp in the movie is supposed to be in upstate NY, but it was filmed where my son went to boot camp.)
I have a friend who lives in the Maryland part of the Delmarva Penninsula, known as "The Eastern Shore." so I regularly cross the Bay bridge from Annapolis, drive to her house to visit, then go on up the Penninsula, join up with I 95, go around Philly, and get on 476 (the "Northeast externsion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike) back up to RT 81 in Scranton, which brings me back to upstate NY.
All on a little tiny piece of wood. The middle of nowhere.

Ya know, if you look carefully enough, each line points to "middle of nowhere" for that state. Look at NJ, that's the middle of the pine barrens.
Well, except for Washington, DC. That's not "nowhere", its Fantasyland.
