Today is also the Eve of Chinese New Year. It is such an important family feasting holiday that I understand that Chinese bishops, and bishops with Chinese populations, have waived the fasting and abstinence for Ash Wednesday, requesting them to transfer that penitential observance to this coming Friday instead.
