I would like to thank the Academy
Yes, it is 2 am and Randy and I just finished watching Sweeney Todd on DVD. It was the only time we could schedule to watch it together.
I know; I was hoping to watch it in a theater when I was home over Christmas, but that didn't work out. Our DVD was a direct copy from a DVD distributed to the people who vote for Academy Awards. I guess I am too late to vote myself, but if I could have, I would have voted for it in every category, including best animation. Just to show my appreciation for screeners.
I did like the singing, even HBC's breathy, almost atonal, whispers, because they did make for good cinema. However, unlike some people (like my friend pd, self-described Sweeney Todd collector) I probably won't buy the soundtrack. While I did think the singing style was appropriate for this movie, in general I think it made for a crummy musical soundtrack.
Even the songs from Sweeney Todd deserve to be belted out.
