Getting in on the action
After a few nights of watching the New Year's celebration of the exploding kind, we thought we, too, might see if we could welcome the Year of the Rat like the rest of the neighborhood. Firecrackers and fireworks are rare in the expat neighborhoods of Shekou. As Randy said, "What's the point of living in a Chinese neighborhood if we don't get to blow something up, too?"
As it just so happened, on every corner between the southside of our garden and the ocean, someone was selling fireworks.

And since my sister likes the way Myles in picture gives a sense of scale

We bought one of those large boxes (the one that is half the size of Myles) and one wheel of firecrackers. We didn't even have to light them ourselves. They carried it into the field for us and lit them. AWESOME!

I can't decide what part I liked the best. Its a toss up between the explosions, the gleeful Myles at the end, or the near panic in Jen's voice every 3.5 seconds with the "whoa....lots of explosions....whoa..whoa....MYLES COME HERE!"
Cool fireworks videos!
