Dong Bei Ren

If you recognize this flower pattern, then you might guess that we were at Dong Bei Ren for dinner this week. Yes, Shenzhen has 2 locations for the chain of Dongbei-style (northeastern--Manchuria, if you will) restaurants found all over China. Can you believe this chain started in Hainan? I mean, talk about the furthest place from Dongbei!

And was it ever good eats. Sometimes there is nothing better than egg and tomato jiaozi dipped in a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic. Really.

Two years ago this wouldn't have even looked appetizing to me, but right now it is one of my favorite foods at the Dong Bei Ren. Tofu sheets coated in hot pepper sauce. I mean, looking at this picture makes me just salivate.
