Bring back the lead

This SCMP story will make you wish they put the lead back in the toy. Apparently, if a piece of a Bindeez, a much lauded Australian toy, is swallowed and metabilized, it turns into GHB, a drug used as a date-rape drug.
So, I wonder, were Bindeez really a ruse for the trafficing this drug, like the dolls in the movie Traffic?
