Bishops here

Adam, as usual, has an interesting round-up concerning three upcoming ordinations of Vatican-approved Chinese bishops, including my own current home diocese, Guangzhou (Canton, historically). It is highly unlikely I will be attending the Guangzhou ordination. I've talked this over with some friends who are probably going, and we all know that my attempt at attendance could pose a problem. That's okay with me, because the focus should not be on who can and cannot go, but rather on the positive. Once we can officially start calling him Bishop Gan, there can be no doubt that we have a legitimate bishop in Guangzhou once again. I have been waiting for this only recently. My friends here have been waiting for this most of their lives. It's their day, not mine.
