"Worth it just for the Indian food and trip to the bookstore"

That is how Randy summed up our experience going over to Hong Kong for the day yesterday. We took the ferry over after breakfast, spent something like an hour in a Page One bookstore, ate a fantastic Indian lunch buffet (which included the best dosai I have ever eaten, but I've never been to India), slipped into Plum Blossoms Gallery to see the last day of the Peng Wei "Woven Clouds" show (thanks, Adam, for the tip), hit Body Shop to stock up on Randy's soaps and shampoos, and then we were back on a Shekou-bound ferry by dinnertime. We were expecting the trip to be hectic, but it was only a legal holiday in China still, so the crowds weren't that bad. In the PRC we get two days for National Day, in Hong Kong they only get one. Oh, don't feel sorry for Hong Kongers. They only get seventeen legal holidays.
One of the books I noticed in the Children's section is a UK-published book called My Hippie Grandmother. What a hoot! Hippies are now grandparents! However, we didn't get it, because we 1)Can't cause confusion with our generational-extending family because Myles has a Hippie Dad and 2)In our family the book should probably be My Biker Grandmother.

... now that's a book you need to write! I'm sure there's lots of local talent for cartoon animation illustrators in your neck of the woods - an Amime treatment would go down real well with this current generation, its not that far fetched, think of Gene Luen Yang's "Rosary comic book" ...
