One more thing on St. Ignatius Cathedral

I forgot to mention that one thing that really surprised me is how much someone or some agency within Shanghai city government considers the Cathedral to be a treasure of the city. Certainly, like the little Nantou church it is on all kinds of historical preservation lists here, which helps. But Shanghai itself sees the church as a very significant old building, like the HSBC Building on the Bund or the Peace Hotel. When we bought a pack of "Scenes of Shanghai "postcards at the art museum, one of the postcards was of the Cathedral. And the day before at the Museum of Urban Planning (again, I have to thank Adam for this recommendation because the name alone would have made me avoid it), one of the featured models in the "Old Shanghai" section was of St. Ignatius Cathedral.
