The Bishop in Guizhou

Earlier this week I linked to some good news at Shanghai Scrap about a newly ordained Vatican-approved Bishop in China. This was widely reported in regular news sources, like Asianews.

I was then alarmed to read in the Hong Kong Standard that a "row" loomed over this ordination. While that was totally untrue (and as Adam calls it, "bad journalism"), it seems to me that wire services might have a set formula for reporting on Chinese Catholic news.

Step one: Report on the event.
Step two: Describe how bad the Vatican's reaction will be (regardless if there is one or not)
Step three: Quote something from someone in the PCA
Step four (optional): Make sweeping statement about PCA and/or underground Catholics

How hard it must be for them to report on anything that resembles positive news in this situation.

Adam has more great stuff today on this same subject, a necessary read if this interests you.
