Salvation in Lights

Thank goodness for iTunes. Without it I would.....well I guess I would probably actually know a Cui Jun song, or live on some of the awful sugar pop that is sold everywhere here. Interesting, maybe, that a majority of my purchases fall into either country or hip hop. For real. I am either listening to Keith Urban or Bone Thugz n Harmony these days. And Ryan Adams, of course. Sometimes I am desperately American.
I received an email from a friend of mine, telling me about a new Gospel CD released by Mike Farris, formerly the lead singer of a band called Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies. The Wheelies are a band with a serious, die-hard, loyal following. I had seen them a few times in New York and in Nashville, and among people I met were a couple from Lexington, Kentucky, that had NEVER missed a weekend Wheelies show regardless of location. Never.
Anyway, Kathie recommended to me this new solo CD from Mike, Salvation in Lights. Mike has been through a heck of a rock-n-roll life, and while his gospel leanings have always been there (he used to close Wheelies shows singing "Amazing Grace" a capella), he hasn't before recorded a full-on Christian CD. I bought it, to support Mike, thinking it would be worth a listen or two. I suspected it might be some sort of overly indulgent southern white-boy-trying-to-be-gospel thing, especially after looking at the playlist. I mean, "Sit Down Servant"? "I'll Take You There"?
HOWEVER, I have enjoyed it. I am not overly familiar with the genre, so I really don't have a good comparison. But I really like it.
