I need to get out less

Recently I was invited by one of my foreign friends to go to a karaoke party as a send-off for another woman we know who was moving back to the U.S.

Karaoke here is called KTV. Unlike in the States where karaoke bars are frequently places that, with enough liquid courage, anyone can belt out Prince or Dixie Chicks or whatever to the delight of friends and strangers, KTV bars are full of smaller private rooms that you rent out for your party. Because of these small, private rooms, KTV's are frequently used for non-karaoke business. In fact, for more than a year I have believed that the karaoke part was really a front.

So when I was invited by an American woman to join other American women at a local KTV, I was surprised to learn that people, normal people, actually karaoke at the karaoke bar.

I do need to get out less.
